Macau's Health Bureau (SSM) has revealed that the number of unclaimed bodies rose from 15 in 2018 to 20 last year.
The bureau released the data to public broadcaster TDM-Radio Macau today.
According to TDM's Portuguese-language radio channel, the number of unclaimed bodies stood at 20 in 2017 and just two each in 2016 and 2015.
Last year, the public Conde de S. Januario Hospital recorded 15 unclaimed bodies, while the private Kiang Wu Hospital recorded just one. Four bodies were handed over by the authorities.
Most of last year's unclaimed bodies, according to the report, were those of local residents and mainland Chinese, while some could not be identified.
A total of 2,282 people passed away in Macau last year, according to Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) data released last month.
