Macau observed this morning a three-minute silence for the victims of the nation's novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, his five policy secretaries and chief-of-cabinet observed the three-minute silence at Government Headquarters from 10 a.m.

The Central People's Government Liaison Office and a raft of local associations separately also observed the three-minute silence.

The day of mourning coincided with the annual Ching Ming Festival (Tomb-Sweeping Festival) when families pay respects to their ancestors at cemeteries and temples.

All national and Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) flags are flying at half mast today. The government and private entities have cancelled all celebratory and recreational activities for today.

Macau has confirmed 43 COVID-19 cases with no fatalities. The government has set up about 3,000 quarantine rooms in a dozen hotels.
