According to the statement, the donation, which aims to support the development of long-term preventive measures against COVID-19, was made with the assistance of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau Special Administrative Region.

Quoting GEG Chairman Lui Che-woo, the statement said that with the novel coronavirus being effectively controlled in mainland China thanks to the effective implementation of various prevention measures, their successful experience serves as a valuable lesson for foreign countries battling COVID-19.

“We hope to further contribute to this fight against the epidemic by subsidising related institutions and specialists in mainland China to carry out the relevant scientific and medical research,” Lui said.

To date, GEG has donated over 100 million patacas to support the related efforts and subscribed HK$100 million in social bonds.
