The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has opened a newly-built pathway called Óscar Trail in the south-western part of Coloane to provide residents with more opportunities to enjoy nature and recreation, according to a statement earlier this week.
According to the statement, Óscar Trail is a 1,150-metre-long pathway in the form of a loop, with both the exit and entrance at the same location close to the IAM-managed Óscar Farm in Estrada de Cheoc Van.
The statement points out that the scenery along the trail is bucolic and picturesque, and there are local tree species on both sides of the trail such as the Chinese sweet gum, mountain tallow tree, and Schima superba.
Hikers will have the opportunity to observe common birds such as the Chinese hwamei (aka melodious laughing thrush) that is generally active in the undergrowth, the light-vented bulbul that loves to sit on branches, the singing warbling white-eye and others, according to the statement.
Hikers can admire the area’s scenery near Estrada da Aldeia and the Cheoc Van shoreline from a vantage point at the top of the hill, making the trail a great place for family nature outings, the statement says.
