A printmaking exhibition entitled “AP62 - City Image” by local artist Tam Kun Fong is being held at 10 Fantasia gallery in São Lázaro district.
The event is organised by the Macau International Printmaking Art Research Centre and sponsored by the public Macau Foundation (FM) and co-organised by the Creative Industries Promotion Association of St. Lazarus Church District and 10 Fantasia, according to 10 Fantasia’s Facebook page.
According to the FB page, Tam graduated from the Macau Polytechnic Institute’s (IPM) Visual Arts Department (Professional Education) and now works as a visual arts teacher at Kao Yip Middle School. He is a member of the Macau International Printmaking Art Research Centre and president of the Macau Youth Arts Association. Tam has participated in a number of exhibitions such as “AP49 – Image ∙ Contemporary International Artist Exchange Exhibition”, “Macau Visual Art Joint Exhibition” in 2018 and “Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Youth Art Exchange Exhibition” in 2019, according to the Facebook page.
The Facebook page includes Tam’s personal introduction to the exhibition. Tam says that “City Image” is a metaphor of the two thought directions of optical imaging and painting imaging which were both used in the creation of the artwork, two modes that seem to be contradictory but are also linked with each other.
“Optical imaging is the direct real image of light rays propagating on the carrier through refraction, diffraction or small holes in a straight line,” Tam points out.
“What I understand in painting is indirect imaging that is manifested on the carrier after human thinking, modification or change. When I create, I always like to combine the imaging elements of photography, the tone relationship generated by the object’s experiential time and the texture generated by the printmaking.”
The event runs until June 28 in Room C02 at the 10 Fantasia gallery daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed on Mondays) at 10 Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro. Admission is free.
Visitors are required to wear a facemask and apply hand sanitiser when entering the venue.
