A local security guard was arrested on Friday for taking upskirt photos of a woman from the mainland when she was withdrawing cash from an ATM in Avenida de Artur Tamagnini Barbosa, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular conference on Monday.
The 37-year-old suspect surnamed Cheang, a local resident, told the police that he works as a security guard.
Wong said the woman, a non-resident worker in her twenties, felt something touch her thigh when she was withdrawing cash from the ATM around 1 p.m. on December 23 last year. She discovered Cheang was using his smartphone to take upskirt photos. Cheang fled the scene after the victim found out what was happening. The woman reported the case to the police. Thanks to CCTV footage, the police were able to track down Cheang and arrested him on Friday in his flat in Avenida da Concórdia in Ilha Verde district.
According to Wong, the police discovered about 20 upskirt photos taken in continuous shooting mode of the victim on Cheang’s smartphone but there were no such photos of other females. Cheang admitted the crime and the police believe that this was the first time that he had committed the crime.
Cheang was transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) last Friday, facing charges of invasion of privacy, according to Wong.
