A Filipino was caught “drunk cycling” on a bicycle as he zigzagged along the narrow streets of the city centre’s old quarters in the early hours of Saturday, the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement on its social media page yesterday.
According to the statement, PSP officers were on patrol around the Rua dos Mercadores and Rua de Nossa Sra. do Amparo when they saw a man wobbling left and right on his bicycle.
The statement said that when police officers stopped the man, he reeked of alcohol, and a breathalyser test showed his alcohol level was at 2.33 grammes per litre.
The statement said that man admitted that he had had a few alcoholic drinks earlier, and decided to cycle home to rest.
The man, in his 40s, is a non-resident worker, according to the statement, which did not reveal the man’s surname. The statement described the case as a drink-driving offence, and the case has been sent to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for follow-up.
This handout photo posted by PSP on its social media page shows a police officer taking a man to the Nam Van police station, with his bicycle next to him, on Saturday.
