Jorge Mota, the well-known owner of the local “Galo” (“Rooster”) Portuguese restaurants, died on Saturday at the age of 70, the Portuguese-language radio channel of public broadcaster TDM reported yesterday.

According to the unsourced Rádio Macau report, Mota arrived in Macau in the 1970s on secondment from the Portuguese navy to work for the local coastguard and customs police (PMF). He opened his first restaurant, Galo, in Taipa in 1987, which has since been closed. He later opened two more restaurants, Dom Galo in Nape and Galo Macau in the city centre. He also ran a restaurant in Sun Yat Sen Park for a number of years.
