World's COVID-19 cases top 9 million, no cases in Macau for 75 days

The world's number of confirmed novel coronavirus disease cases has gone beyond nine million, according to worldmeters.info

According to the real-time statistics reference website, the number of global COVID-19 cases stood at 9,064,745 at 5 p.m. (Macau time) today, when the number of deaths amounted to 470,981. 

The US and Brazil had the highest number of confirmed cases and deaths. In the US the number stood at 2.35 million cases with 122,248 deaths, while the number in Brazil amounted to 1.08 million cases with 50,659 deaths. The US and Brazil are the only countries with more than one million cases and over 50,000 COVID-19 fatalities each. 

No new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Macau for 75 days, according to the local Health Bureau (SSM). All of the 45 novel coronavirus disease patients in Macau have been discharged from hospital. Macau has been spared a community outbreak. A total of 43 cases were classified by the Health Bureau as imported, while it classified two as "connected to imported cases." 

Observers have noted that close to 100 percent of people in Macau have been wearing facemasks since late January. Facemasks are mandatory on public transport and public administration premises, as well as in casinos.
