Locals thought they’d got the best “staycation” deal after successfully booking a night’s stay at Galaxy Macau for 10 patacas on Tuesday, only to be told that it was a system error, with the hotel confirming the incident in a statement yesterday, suggesting guests either cancel their booking or reconfirm their booking at the current rates.

The 10-pataca Galaxy room deal issue went viral on social media yesterday when people who had a booking confirmation from online travel agencies’ websites for their room reservations said that they were turned away when they tried to check in at the hotel.

One netizen who managed to get the deal – that eventually turned out to be too good to be true – had already checked in to the room but was later told to check out since the deal was not recognised.

None of these incidents have been personally confirmed, but screen grabs of people’s booking confirmations for two nights at the hotel for HK$19.20 or one night for 12 yuan or 10 patacas are circulating on the Internet.

GEG posted a statement on its social media page yesterday afternoon regarding the bizarre incident.

“Galaxy Macau noticed that an error in cost of some room reservations was found in certain hotel room booking platforms resulting in a discrepancy of the listed rates by the third-party online travel agencies (OTAs) and our offers,” the statement said.

The hotel said that they immediately got in touch with the OTAs and rectified the situation.

Apologising for the incident, the hotel suggested that “affected guests” who made their bookings on OTAs on Tuesday “contact their OTAs for viable solutions, including free cancellation and reconfirming the new bookings at the current rates”.
