The Taipei District Public Prosecutors Office has charged a male student from Macau, who allegedly killed a stray cat in Taipei’s Da’an district in December last year, for violating Taiwan’s Animal Protection Act, according to a report by the semi-official Central News Agency (CNA) yesterday.

According to the news report, the office completed its investigation into the case yesterday.

The chemical engineering major at the National Taiwan University (NTU), surnamed Chan, was taken by officers to a police station in Taipei on December 29 last year for abusing and killing a popular stray ginger cat, which was named ‘Da Ju Zi’, according to previous media reports. A NTU statement released in January said Chan “has admitted his crime and is remorseful”.

This photo sent by a Taipei resident surnamed Li to The Macau Post Daily earlier this year shows “Da Ju Zi”, a stray cat allegedly killed by a student from Macau in December last year.
