A man went to a police station last Thursday to confess that he had removed nearly 200 light covers and LED lamps from the corridors of two buildings, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Sou Sio Keong said in a regular press conference on Friday.
The 32-year-old local suspect surnamed Wong told the police that he works as a nurse in the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre.
According to Sou, a property management company reported to the police on June 25 that a large number of light covers and LED lamps in corridors on different floors of two buildings in Avenida 1º de Maio were damaged.
Thanks to CCTV footage, the Judiciary Police discovered that the culprit lives in one of the buildings. Wong surrendered to the police on Thursday, telling them that the condominium owners’ association, of which he’s a member, had been complaining to the building management company about the lack of lighting in the corridors since May, but to no avail so, in an apparent act of revenge, Wong decided to remove a large number of light covers and LED lamps.
According to Sou, Wong confessed that he deliberately dismantled 128 light covers and 66 LED lamps on different floors of two buildings, involving a loss of about 240,000 patacas. PJ officers found some of the dismantled light covers and lamps in Wong’s home, while he had thrown the remainder away.
Wong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of aggravated damage, according to Sou.
