An Indonesian woman’s gold necklace was robbed by a male compatriot who used a chokehold on her, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a regular press conference on Monday.
According to Leng, two Indonesian women, who both work as domestic helpers and are in their thirties, were walking along Estrada de Adolfo Loureiro in San Kio district at around at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, when a man suddenly attacked one of them from behind. The other woman tried to help her friend but the attacker used a chokehold on her and banged her head against the wall of a building. She fell to the ground and the suspect fled towards Rua da Restauração. Afterwards she discovered that her necklace worth HK$4,500 had vanished so she reported the case to the police.
Leng said both women sustained minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for examination. The robbery victim’s friend told the police that she had recently met the suspect, a fellow Indonesian in his forties, at a second-hand sale.
However, she said that she didn’t know the suspect’s personal details.
At the time of the press conference, the police were still looking for the suspect.
