A local man was found dead in his flat at the Seac Pai Van public housing estate in Coloane on Tuesday evening, according to a text message from Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lai Man Vai.
According to Lai’s message, PJ officers received a report at 6:04 p.m. on Tuesday from the Fire Services Bureau (CB) about a suspected suicide case in a flat of a building in the Seac Pai Van public housing estate.
The deceased is a 65-year-old local man surnamed Cheng.
Cheng lived in the flat with his family and when a member of the family came out of his or her bedroom after taking a nap, he or she discovered that Cheng had hanged himself in the bathroom. The family member immediately called the city’s emergency hotline. Firefighters rushed to the flat and confirmed that Cheng was dead, according to Lai’s message.
According to a preliminary examination, Cheng had injuries on his neck, which were consistent with the cause of death.
A forensic examination will be carried out and the case has been referred to the PJ Investigation section for follow-up, according to Lai’s message.
