Many people gathered at the city’s main square, Largo do Senado, yesterday for popcorn, candy floss, ice cream, cold drinks and beer to enjoy the al fresco seating atmosphere with live music.

The snacks and drinks booths are part of the “Gathering at Dusk in Senado Square” event organised by The United Association of Food and Beverage Merchants of Macau.

Local families and non-resident workers were attracted to enjoy the event during their leisure time.

A Filipina customer told The Macau Post Daily yesterday that she has been working in Macau for 10 years and hasn’t experienced such a relaxing activity in the usually – pre-COVID-19 – busy square that is generally packed with tourists.

People walking through the square can buy cool refreshments and some snacks in the summer heat.

A local gelato brand which participated in the activity told The Macau Post Daily yesterday that the event could boost Macau’s economy by attracting local customers during the COVID-19 pandemic as currently there are virtually no tourists.

This event, which began on Friday, will run until October 24, the food stalls are open from Monday to Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and from Friday to Sunday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., and jazz performances run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
