Sands China hosted a seminar on the analysis of Macau’s economic development over the past decade using a data-driven approach on Wednesday that was attended by about 200 staff members.

The seminar, held at The Parisian, was also joined by local youths who have previously participated in Sands’ various talent development programmes.

The objective of the seminar was to familiarise employees with the integrated resort business environment by enhancing their in-depth understanding of the latest trends in the hospitality and tourism industry, through examining statistics and facts.

Entitled “Professionalism Education for Sands China Team Members – A Data-Driven Analysis of Macao’s Economy”, the seminar was facilitated by Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) representatives, who explained key concepts such as tourist consumption and tourism-related industry profiles, and discussed changes and demands in the human resources market.

“Big data and economic statistics provide a solid foundation for our decision-making process in the integrated resorts business,” Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai said, adding that the knowledge and insights DSEC representatives shared have enhanced staff members’ understanding of the business environment, thus allowing the company to continuously enhance its service standards, and to make valuable contributions to the economic diversification of Macau and the development of the city into a world centre of tourism and leisure.

One of the seminar’s participant Eduardo Kong, a revenue optimisation and distribution manager, said that Macau’s tourism industry has undergone noticeable changes in recent years.

“The sharing at this seminar has enabled us to deliver personalised services and offerings according to consumer behaviour and travellers’ needs,” Kong said.

Sands China has been committed to improving the professionalism of its 29,000 employees through over 20 initiatives.scpr
