A local association under the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) has urged the government to develop idle plots of land at Hac Sa Beach into drive-in campsites, after the police found a considerable number of residents driving their cars into a restricted area near the beach.

A recent statement by the Public Security Police (PSP) said that residents who drove into the area may face legal consequences as there are “no-entry” signs at the entrance to the restricted beach area, urging people to follow traffic signs to ensure safety on the beach.

In a recent statement by the Choi In Tong Sam Association, its chairman, Lam Lon Wai, said that people entered the area because of its beautiful scenery, which attracted groups, families in particular, to drive in and enjoy leisure activities such as picnicking and camping.

According to Lam, this shows that there is a strong demand for a permanent drive-in campsite by local residents, pointing out that Macau lacks this type of recreational venue.

Lam suggested that the government should consider developing the idle plots of land near Hac Sa Beach for residents to drive in and enjoy their time by the sea, creating more choices for local leisure activities, for families in particular, where children can learn to appreciate nature and develop a sense of environmental awareness.

Additionally, Lam recommended a flat space beside the Hac Sa Camping Area which could be put to good use by creating a permanent drive-in campsite. Lam said he believed that a permanent drive-in campsite along with Hac Sa’s other recreational facilities would create a family-friendly environment where locals could enjoy their leisure time.
