Broad money supply rises 3.7 pct in June

Macau’s broad money supply rose 3.7 percent month-on-month in June with a stable share of patacas, the Macau Monetary Authority (AMCM) said in a statement yesterday.

Macau’s currency in circulation and demand deposits rose 0.8 percent and 1.9 percent respectively. Narrow money supply M1 thus increased 1.7 percent month-on-month.

Quasi-monetary liabilities grew 4.0 percent. Broad money supply M2 rose 3.7 percent to 712.2 billion patacas.

On an annual basis, M1 and M2 increased 0.5 percent and 6.1 percent respectively, according to the statement.

The shares of the pataca, Hong Kong dollar, renminbi (yuan) and US dollar in M2 were 32.5 percent, 45.4 percent, 5.3 percent and 14.9 percent respectively.

Resident deposits went up by 3.8 percent month-on-month to 693.9 billion patacas, while non-resident deposits rose 10.1 percent to 315.1 billion patacas.

Public sector deposits with the banking sector decreased 1.5 percent to 261.0 billion patacas. Total deposits in the banking sector increased 4.1 percent to 1,269.9 billion patacas.

Domestic loans to the private sector dropped 0.3 percent to 540.3 billion patacas. External loans grew 2.9 percent to 666.6 billion patacas month-on-month.

Total loans to the private sector went up by 1.5 percent to 1,206.9 billion patacas, according to the statement.

At the end of June, the loan-to-deposit ratio for the resident sector dropped from 58.0 percent at the end of May to 56.6 percent. The ratio for both the resident and non-resident sectors fell from 97.5 percent to 95.0 percent. – Xinhua
