An adult Chinese white dolphin was found near the shore at Cheoc Van Beach yesterday morning, the Municipal Affairs Bureau’s (IAM) said in a statement.
According to the statement, the dolphin was found by Macau Custom Service officers who then reported the case to the Municipal Affairs Bureau. IAM officials confirmed the carcass to be that of an adult male Chinese white dolphin, also known as Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, with a body length of 2.45metres.
The statement pointed out that the dolphin’s body was bloated and its skin was disintegrating. The statement said since there were no external wounds on the dolphin, it was probably dead before being washed ashore. The statement also said that when the cetacean was found, the carcass had already begun to decompose. According to the statement, the dolphin will probably be cremated.
In May, two dead dolphins were found around the rocky shore in Coloane and the Oriental Pearl shoreline respectively.
The statement urged the public to call the Municipal Affairs Bureau on 2833 7676 if they see a stranded dolphin.
