Macau's weather station hoisted the standby signal No. 1 at 8 p.m. today as a tropical cyclone might affect the city.
According to a statement by the Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) tonight, at 11 p.m. the tropical cyclone was estimated to be about 650 kilometres east-south-east of Macau when it was moving about towards the west coast of Guangdong province at about 20 km/h.
The statement said that the signal No. 1 would remain hoisted at least until tomorrow morning.
The signal No. 1 is purely advisory. It is a standby signal and merely calls attention to the fact that a tropical cyclone is centred within at least 800 kilometres of Macau which might later affect the city.
