A man in his late sixties was arrested on Friday for installing a “pinhole video camera” in a toilet at his flat in the Avenida de Horta e Costa neighbourhood to film his Filipina domestic helper, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Kam Ka Kit said during yesterday’s regular press conference.
The 69-year-old local man surnamed Wong told the police that he is unemployed. He lives with his wife in a flat in Rua de Silva Mendes. The victim had worked for Wong for five years.
According to Kam, the victim, who is in her thirties, reported to the police on Friday that she found a car-key-shaped minicam in a paper bag in the toilet and suspected that her employer put it there to take sneak shots of her. She went to the management office of the building and called the police.
Kam said the victim took PSP officers to the flat where they questioned Wong. Officers found the minicam in the paper bag in the toilet but no footage was found on the camcorder. However, the police found a memory card on Wong, in which they discovered two short videos, both taken on July 27. The two videos showed the victim changing her clothes. The videos run for 36 seconds, and 12 minutes and 6 seconds respectively.
Under questioning, Wong admitted that he hid the minicam in the toilet and claimed that he used it to monitor the victim’s work performance. However, PSP officers were unable to find footage of any domestic work performed by the victim elsewhere in the flat on the memory card. So they believe that Wong deliberately took sneak videos of the victim, Kam said.
Wong was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Sunday, facing an invasion of privacy charge, according to Kam.
