A suspected peeping Tom was arrested on Monday over an incident in a women’s toilet of a fast-food eatery in Rua da Bacia Sul in Fai Chi Kei on Sunday, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a press conference yesterday.
The 58-year-old local suspect surnamed Chong told the police that he’s unemployed.
According to Wong, a 30-year-old woman reported to the police on Sunday that she saw a man in the restaurant’s women’s toilets at about 8:15 p.m. on that day and suspected him of peeping at her while she was using the toilet.
She told the police that she suddenly she heard a strange noise and saw the back of a man’s head in the cubicle next to her. When she shouted at the man he ran away.
Thanks to the restaurant’s CCTV footage, PSP officers identified Chong. The footage showed him staying in the women’s toilet for less than 10 minutes until he ran away. The police intercepted him outside a building in Rua Sul do Patane on Monday afternoon. Under questioning, Chong claimed that he had entered the women’s toilet because the men’s toilet was occupied at that time. He also claimed that he only entered the women’s toilet because of a stomach ache and that he had checked that no one was there before he entered.
Chong denied voyeurism and claimed that he had squatted on the toilet seat and afterwards stood up on it and pulled up his trousers. He claimed that he discovered there was someone in the cubicle next to him when he stood up so he quickly left the toilet.
PSP officers did not find any surreptitiously filmed videos or photos on Chong, according to Wong.
Chong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an invasion of privacy charge, according to Wong.
