The meeting will be held on Friday morning. During the three-day visit, Ho will meet separately with PPRD leaders to exchange views on topics of mutual concern, according to the statement.

Sanya, one of four prefecture-level cities of the nation’s southernmost province, lies some 600 kilometres south-west of Macau.

The meeting is a platform launched in 2004 for regional cooperation between eight provinces, one autonomous region and two special administrative regions – collectively known as the “9+2” – located in the Greater Pearl River Delta Region, namely the provinces of Fujian, Guangdong, Guizhou, Hainan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Sichuan and Yunnan; the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region; and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau, the statement notes.

Themed “Sharing the opportunities of the Hainan Free Trade Port and promoting the joint development of the Pearl River Pan-Delta Region” this year, the PPRD leaders will discuss three topics: 1) sharing the fresh opportunities created by the advancing Hainan Free Port and jointly building a platform for system integration and innovation; 2) building together a modern transport network composed of large-scale ports, corridors and centres; and 3) promoting high-quality development for regional cooperation within the PPRD Region, the statement said.

In addition, the progress that has been made since 2019 and a work report from the Secretariat of the Pan-Pearl River Delta Cooperation and Development Forum will also be reviewed during the meeting, according to the statement.
