The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement yesterday that it will carry out maintenance work at the Treasure of Sacred Art of St. Joseph’s Seminary from today, including repairing leaks in the ceiling and walls.

According to the statement, the maintenance work is expected to be completed in late December. The museum will remain closed during the period.

An brief introductory text on the IC website states that the “St. Joseph’s Seminary houses a great number of religious artefacts such as books and documents, oil paintings, icons, liturgical vestments and vessels.

The text underlines that “founded in 1728 by Jesuit missionaries, the St. Joseph’s Seminary has cultivated numerous outstanding Catholic clergy in the course of the last three centuries, maintained a close relationship with Macau’s social development and made positive contributions to local cultural, educational, artistic and charitable undertakings.”

The museum is located in S. José Church in Rua do Seminário.
