An exhibition entitled ‘Natura’ by female artists from near and far is showing their nature-themed creations at Albergue SCM.

The event is organised by Albergue SCM and sponsored by the public Macau Foundation (FM) and over two dozen other entities, according to a statement by the organiser.

The statement points out that ARTFEM Women Artists International Biennial of Macau is held every two years. This year’s is the second edition.

ARTFEM aims to contribute to a greater visibility of female artists in the contemporary world, and to a (re)discovery of the art of women who have played a socially and culturally significant role, gearing local arts towards international standards and bringing more dynamic and plentiful artistic experiences to the public and tourists, according to the statement.

The statement points out that 98 female artists are participating in the exhibition – 13 from the mainland, 16 from Portugal, 31 from Macau, seven from Hong Kong, two from South Korea, one from Japan, three from Indonesia, three from France, one from Spain, three from Italy, one from the Netherlands, one from the United Kingdom, three from Germany, one from Sweden, one from Belgium, three from Brazil, two from the United States, one from Canada , two from India, one from East Timor, one from Iran, and one from Australia.

The exhibition displays paintings, sculptures, ceramics, installations, drawings, silkscreen prints on diverse media, videos and photographs, the statement says, adding that the event aims to bring to the fore urgent discourses on the environment, including its protection or devastation, the relationship of humankind with nature, while containing a localising “gaze” onto social aspects that result from its location in Macau, the Pearl River Delta region and the COVID-19 pandemic crisis that have affected the world since December 2019.

The exhibition is being held in four separate art spaces in Macau, comprising Albergue SCM, the former Ox Warehouse gallery, Galeria Lisboa, and the Orient Foundation’s Casa Garden, with a blend of seminars, workshops and tours aiming to encourage participation by artists, locals and tourists. Admission is free. Further details are available on https://artfem.org.

The exhibition at Albergue SCM runs until December 13 and opens daily from noon to 8 p.m. except Mondays when it opens from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at A2 Gallery and Hall D1 in 8 Calçada da Igreja de São Lázaro.

The exhibits are for sale except the ones by Xiang Jing and Carol Kwok Sin-chai. They are priced between 5,000 patacas and 3,025,100 patacas.
