Two members of the government-appointed Northern Districts Community Service Consultative Council – Wong Ian Man and Ho Chong Chun – said yesterday they worried that the renewal of the city’s old quarters could be just “castles in the air”.
Addressing yesterday’s meeting of the council at the government’s Service Centre in Areia Preta, Wong, who heads the Macau Chain Stores and Franchise Association, said that the redevelopment of the city’s old quarters should not remain at the concept level or idea stage, and there should be concrete measures or policies in place for improving the living environment in old districts such as Iao Hon.
Wong also pointed out that many residential buildings in Iao Hon are over 35 years old, adding that some of them are in a very poor condition.
