They’ve been training the whole year round and they’ve been practising on the lake for two months, the athletes from Macau Special Olympics (MSO) are all set to compete in the dragon boat races which paddle off tomorrow.
Started by the community as a dragon boat activity before 1979, the tradition has grown to become an annual event that not only attracts local residents to take part for a lot of fun and spirited competition but also a sporting event in which international teams arrive in the city to compete every year.
The Macau International Dragon Boat Races’ main organisers—the Sports Bureau and Dragon Boat Association of Macau—hope to promote the dragon boat traditions, as well as friendship between local and overseas participants through the event, at the same time
contributing to sport and tourism development.
