The “reimagined” House of Dancing Water show to mark the reopening of the theatre since its temporary closure in June will not be happening in January, according to a Melco statement received by The Macau Post Daily yesterday.
The statement said that in June when the theatre was closed, the company expected to reopen it with a “reimagined new show” in January.
The statement said that as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions were preventing the show’s creative director Franco Dragone from coming to Macau and, at the same time, the work permits of the show’s non-resident workers are expiring, the show would “remain closed for the next several months”.
The statement quoted Melco’s Chief Operating Officer David Sisk as saying that local staff would continue to support the activities held at the theatre.
The statement quoted Dragone as saying that he and his team have been working on “reimagining” the show for a while.
“Unfortunately, I cannot come to Macau nor can any of my team,” Dragone said, adding that he was “very hopeful” that he and his team could come to Macau to present the reimagined show.
The statement did not say how many non-resident workers who worked for the show are leaving Macau.
According to the statement, the House of Dancing Water show has been seen by over six million spectators since its debut in 2010.
