Two couples were arrested recently for their alleged involvement in fake marriages so that one of the couples could obtain Macau ID cards enabling them to work as casino dealers, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Kam Ka Kit said at a regular press conference on Wednesday.
The two bogus marriages involve two sisters.
The four suspects comprise a 66-year-old jobless local man surnamed Iam; a 54-year-old local female surnamed Cai (the elder sister and cohabiting girlfriend of Iam) who told the police that she is a driver; a 47-year-old man surnamed Rong; and a 49-year-old woman surnamed Cai (the younger sister).
Both Rong and the younger Cai work as casino dealers, who married in Taishan city in Guangdong province in 1992 and have two children, Kam said.
According to Kam, the Public Security Police (PSP) recently discovered a suspicious marriage case which showed that a man surnamed Rong married a mainland woman surnamed Wang in November 18, 2015 and applied for a family reunion.
According to Kam, PSP officers discovered that Rong married a mainland woman surnamed Cai (the younger sister) in the mainland in 1992. They divorced in 2004. Rong then married Cai’s elder sister who at that time was already a local resident on March 21, 2006. After Rong obtained his Macau ID card in 2014, he divorced Cai (the elder sister) in July that year.
PSP officers also discovered that after Rong had divorced Cai (the younger sister) in 2004, she married Iam, who is a local resident and the cohabiting boyfriend of Cai’s elder sister, on March 21, 2006 – the same day Rong and Cai’s elder sister got married in Macau, Kam said.
The Public Security Police recently told the four suspects to report to a police station for questioning. PSP officers confirmed that Iam and his girlfriend Cai (the elder sister) are local residents, Kam said.
Under questioning, Iam told the police that his girlfriend proposed to help her younger sister and brother-in-law who then still lived in the mainland obtain Macau ID cards.
Hence, Rong and Cai (the younger sister) divorced in 2004, and Rong married Cai (the elder sister) and Rong’s ex-wife, the younger sister, married her sister’s boyfriend, Iam, on the same day in late March 2006. After Rong and Cai (the younger sister) obtained their Macau ID cards in 2014, the two couples immediately divorced. One of the couples – Rong and the younger Cai were later employed as casino dealers, according to Kam.
According to a special government arrangement, only local residents are allowed to work as casino dealers.
The other three suspects denied their involvement in the two fake marriages, but Kam said the trio’s statements to the police proved contradictory.
Besides, Rong later got involved in another marriage case to apply for a family reunion for a mainland woman surnamed Wang and her daughter, after Rong and Wang got married in November 2015, Kam said.
The two couples were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on November 18, facing document forgery charges, according to Kam. However, the police only announced the case involving the two couples on Wednesday.
