A Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) activity entitled “Integrated Media Visit to Macau” invited 11 mainland news media, including People’s Daily Online, for in-depth coverage about Macau being a “healthy and fascinating” tourist destination, an MGTO statement said yesterday.

According to the statement, the media representatives arrived in Macau last Wednesday for a five-day visit. The statement said that journalists explored different landmarks such as A-Ma Temple, the Moorish Barracks, São Lourenço Church and Dom Pedro V Theatre. The statement pointed out that they also visited a number of “distinctive shops” and tried local signature cuisines.

The statement said that during the visit, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes briefed them about Macau’s COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures, the recovery progress in the wake of the pandemic, distinctive tourism products and promotional offers that tourists can receive while in the city.

According to the statement, the aim of the activity was for the mainland media to use their professional angles through multimedia tools such as photos, articles and videos to demonstrate the city’s “COVID-19 free image”.

The statement noted that since the resumption of the issuing of Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) travel permits for all mainlanders on September 23, the government has been promoting Macau’s “healthy” image by inviting a number of influencers and the media from the mainland. The statement added that MGTO hopes to convey the message that “Macau is a healthy city that welcomes mainland residents to visit without the mandatory 14-day quarantine” which is required for arrivals from elsewhere.

MGTO did not say when and where the meeting took place.
