An exhibition of photos taken by instructors and members of the Macau Cultural Industries Youth Promotion Association (MCIYPA) entitled “Appreciation of My City” is on display at 10 Fantasia.

The event is being supported by 10 Fantasia – A Creative Industries Incubator, St. Lazarus Church District Creative Industries Promotion Association, and Oriental and Occidental Arts Gallery, and sponsored by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) and Macau Foundation (FM).

According to a statement received by The Macau Post Daily from 10 Fantasia early this month, the themes of this exhibition are “Appreciation of Macau’s World Heritage” and “Appreciation of Macau’s Old Quarters”, aiming to show the beauty, customs and culture of Macau’s UNESCO-listed World Heritage through the photographs.

The MCIYPA hopes that the pictures can strengthen public awareness of the conservation of Macau’s cultural heritage, promote the city’s artistic ambience and nurture local talents. The exhibition showcases Macau’s unique integration of Chinese and Western cultures and harmonious coexistence of diverse cultures, allowing visitors to experience the city’s art scene.

Chio Chi Hou, a member of the association, told The Macau Post Daily at the venue on Sunday that he joined the MCIYPA last year and that he’s happy to be able to participate in the exhibition.

Chio said, “I took this picture when I saw a tour guide explaining the history of A-Ma Temple to a group of tourists last year. I only drove past the temple in the past but did not get to know much about it.

“The concept of my work entitled ‘To meet directly’ is that travelling is just like meeting friends, and we can get to know everything about the place or the person through messages or photos; however, it is better to meet directly so that we can really understand each other.

“Even when making an appointment but being worried that I may not find my friend or the place, I can always take along a picture of the friend or place and ask when we meet: ‘How are you?’,” Chio said.

The exhibition runs until Friday at 10 Fantasia, which opens daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 10, Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro. The exhibition is held in the courtyard outside the Fantasia building. Admission is free.
