GEG Supports Macau to Hold International Sports Events; 2020 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon Successfully Concluded


The 2020 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon, jointly organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macau SAR Government and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, was held successfully this month. Over the years, Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) has been proactively supporting the Macau SAR Government’s directions to promote sports tourism by assisting in the hosting of different international sports events, with an aim to foster Macau’s development as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure. Under the support of the Sports Bureau, GEG hosted again the Most Creative Costume Award and Upload Best Shot to Win Lucky Draw campaign, inviting runners and the public to take part in the event to share the joyful spirit. As one of the city’s world-class sporting events, the annual race has attracted numerous participating marathon lovers, and each year, the highly anticipated event gets filled quickly by diehard runners. This year, 12,000 runners enrolled in the event. 2020 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon took place on December 6, with the marathon, half-marathon and mini-marathon courses starting at the stadium of the Olympic Sports Centre in Taipa. To ensure a Covid-secure race, preventive measures were adopted according to the guidelines by the Health Bureau of the Macau SAR Government.


The Marathon runners passed by several landmarks in the city such as Galaxy Macau and World Heritage attraction.

A celebrated event for runners, the Macao International Marathon has entered into its 39th edition. The route passed by Macau’s well-known architectural sites and landmarks, including Galaxy Macau, the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge and Sai Van Bridge. Runners could enjoy the beautiful scenery of the city’s World Heritage attraction and diverse cultural and entertainment offerings to get a taste of the authentic experience at this sport tourism destination. 


The contestants were excited capturing the memorable moment after the event.

Encouraging Team Members’ Participation

GEG runners took active participation in the race every year. This year, they continued to deliver strong performance and took home the Group Trophy for the 16th time. Ms. Shanti Devi Adhikari from the GEG Runner’s Club and a team member of the Security Department, has competed almost every year since joining the company in 2005. “I love marathon and train a lot to get prepared in order to maximize my performance. GEG supports a wide variety of sport events and encourages team member participation. I am very proud to be part of the GEG team,” she said.


GEG took home the Group Trophy for the 16th time.

Ms. Mary-Anne Lozano Santos from the Environmental Services Department of GEG who also won the mini-marathon said, “ I am relieved that the Government has introduced appropriate preventive measures and that the community supports to bring the epidemic under control.”

Marathon Costume Contest

The Most Creative Costume Award was the highlight of the marathon. The winners received MOP3,000 dining vouchers this year as the reward. “This is my seventh year running the marathon, and last year I dressed up as the same character and won the contest,” said Mr. Ao Wai Ip from the Information Systems and Technology Department of GEG in his impressive costume. In addition, he mentioned that like in Macau, he loved to arrive at a costume fitting in other international marathon events.

In line with the Macau SAR Government’s anti-COVID-19 measures, the Marathon has introduced various measures to ensure the safety of runners. All successful registered runners were required to present a negative certificate for the nucleic acid test carried out the previous seven days and the real-time “Macau Health Code” on the same day.

Upload Best Photo to Win Lucky Draw

Participants and spectators taking part in the marathon this year were welcome to join the activity by uploading their best photos under the theme to enter the lucky draw held at Broadway Food Street. Prizes included KIA cars sponsored by GEG, hotel room vouchers with breakfast, shopping vouchers, F&B vouchers and Cinemas tickets at Galaxy Macau.
