Filipino trio busted for drug trafficking: police

Three non-resident workers (NRWs) from the Philippines, aged 35, 38 and 44, were arrested on Wednesday for their involvement in drug trafficking in Macau, a Judiciary Police (PJ spokesperson said during a special press conference on Friday.

According to the spokesperson, having received intelligence that a Filipino trio were involved in drug trafficking in Macau’s San Kio district, the Judiciary Police launched a follow-up investigation, which identified Paslua, 35, a janitor, and Campaner, 38, a general service attendant, as well as Escalan, 44, also a general service attendant, so PJ officers put them under surveillance.

The spokesperson pointed out that the officers arrested one of the trio on Wednesday near San Kio district and seized a small package of crystal methamphetamine and drug taking paraphernalia in his flat.

Later the same day, PJ officers intercepted the second suspect for trafficking in drugs, and found a number of packets of crystal methamphetamine, as well as drug taking paraphernalia in his flat.

In the evening of the same day, PJ officers intercepted the third drug trafficking suspect, the spokesperson said, adding that he tried to run but was intercepted by the officers.

The Judiciary Police believe that the trio had been selling drugs in Macau for about a month, the spokesperson said, adding that PJ officers seized 8 grams of crystal methamphetamine, with a total street value of about 20,000 patacas.

The spokesperson pointed out that the trio tested positive for drugs.

The trio were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing charges of drug trafficking and drug abuse, the spokesperson said.

The Judiciary Police are continuing their investigation, according to the spokesperson.
