Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai met with Communist Party of China (CPC) Heilongjiang Provincial Committee Secretary Xu Qin yesterday at Government Headquarters where they engaged in in-depth discussions on deepening exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two sides, according to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) last night.
Yesterday’s meeting came after their meeting in the northeastern province when Sam paid a three-day visit to its capital Harbin last month where he attended the opening ceremony of the 9th Asian Winter Games on February 7.
Welcoming Xu and members of his delegation to Macau, according to last night’s statement, Sam said during yesterday’s meeting that exchanges between Macau and Heilongjiang have become increasingly frequent, economic and trade relations have grown closer, and cooperation has been progressing well.
Sam said that the Macau government, guided by the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important speeches, will continue to adhere to the “One Country, Two Systems” principle, to fully leverage Macau’s role as a bridge for exchange and cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and to actively align with major national strategies such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.
Sam pledged that Macau will explore international markets in collaboration with Heilongjiang, with the aim of achieving mutual benefits and common development.
Sam also noted that Heilongjiang has a solid industrial foundation and abundant ecological resources. Both Macau and Heilongjiang possess unique advantages in resources and industries, offering broad prospects for north-south cooperation, Sam said.
Sam said he expects the two sides to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, technology, education, culture and tourism, and sports, injecting new impetus into Macau’s efforts to promote its appropriate economic diversification.
Heilongjiang (“Black Dragon River”) is the nation’s northernmost and easternmost province and contains both its northernmost point (Mohe City and its easternmost point (at the confluence of the Amur and Ussuri rivers). It has 32 million inhabitants.
