Macau International Airport Co. Ltd (CAM) announced in a statement yesterday the latest guidelines and reminders for in-flight power banks.

The statement said that most airlines operating at the local airport are “gradually revising and implementing regulations” on carrying and using power banks next month to ensure aviation safety.

According to the statement, power banks must not be used during flights. In terms of storage, the statement said that they should remain in one’s carry-on luggage and must not be stored in checked-in baggage or overhead compartments. Storage in checked-in luggage may trigger a secondary screening, while storage in overhead compartments might “hinder emergency access”.

Moreover, one may be asked to discard damaged or swollen power banks, along with models that do not have a clearly marked capacity or have been recalled.

A swollen power bank has expanded or bulged due to battery swelling.

The statement pointed out that travellers can contact their respective carriers if they have questions about power bank storage and usage. One may also find illustrated guidelines on https://www.macau-airport.com/zh/passenger-guide/departure
