The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a local man on Friday for drunk driving, with his blood alcohol concentration standing at 1.87 grams per litre, PSP spokeswoman Cheong Im Sim said during a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect, surnamed Chan, is in his sixties and works as an electrician.

According to Cheong, the Public Security Police (PSP) received a report on Friday evening about a rear-end collision that occurred on the flyover leading from Guia Hill Tunnel towards Avenida de Horta e Costa (高士德大馬路), with no injuries reported.

Cheong noted that the driver of the rear car, Chan, admitted full responsibility. A breathalyser test revealed that Chan’s blood alcohol concentration was 1.87 grams per litre, confirming his drunk-driving offence.

Under questioning, Chan admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages before driving. He told the police that he had parked his car near Rotunda do Dique Oeste (形西堤圓形地) in Taipa to drink several cans of beer because he was thirsty before continuing on his way home.

Chan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of drunk driving.
