The government has introduced a half-hourly fee system for the city’s public carparks, with the public carpark at the Mong Son Building social rental housing estate being the first to implement the measure at 10 a.m. today.
The Official Gazette (BO) published an executive order yesterday, signed by Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai on March 21. According to the order, effective today, the daytime parking fee for cars, i.e., from 8 a.m. to 7:59 p.m., will be three patacas for every half hour or less, while the night fee, i.e., from 8 p.m. to 7:59 a.m., will be 1 pataca 50 avos. For motorcycles, the fee will be one pataca during the day and 50 avos at night. The carpark accepts five payment methods – cash payment, “Mpark”, Macau Pass, MPay, and UnionPay QuickPass.
The public carpark at Mong Son Building on Avenida de Venceslau de Morais (慕拉士大馬路) covers three basement levels, offering a total of 868 parking spaces for public use. Among them, 530 are for cars and 338 for motorbikes.
In the executive order, members of the public are reminded that the maximum permitted parking time in the carpark is eight consecutive days, except for vehicles permitted by the Transport Bureau (DSAT).
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, the Transport Bureau noted that the measure aims to optimise the use of public parking resources, encourage motorists to utilise public parking facilities, and accelerate the turnover of parking spaces.
The bureau also noted that a small number of parking spaces would need to be temporarily suspended for communal facilities’ pipe work in the building.
It emphasised its commitment to closely monitoring the parking rates and the operation of the trial half-hourly fee system. Additionally, the bureau will continue to gather feedback from the community to review and adjust the new measure in a timely manner, aiming to better address the parking habits and needs of the public.
The statement underlined that the measure will be implemented from today after considering the views of various road stakeholders, associations, and advisory bodies regarding the fee system for public carparks.
