According to a statement from the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) on Friday, the 2024 annual occupational injury statistical analysis report reveals that 5,095 individuals were injured in work-related accidents this year, resulting in 10 fatalities.
The primary causes of these incidents were “falls” (25.4 percent), “crushing, stabbing, or cutting” (19.3 percent), and “tripping or colliding with objects” (16.1 percent).
Among the injured, 10 people lost their lives, including one case suspected to involve a violation of occupational safety and health regulations. All fatal incidents have been referred to the judicial authorities, and the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said it would make necessary adjustments to the data based on the judicial outcomes.
The statement emphasised that in order to monitor occupational safety and health conditions across various industries in Macau, the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) conducted 3,550 safety inspections in 2024 at different workplaces, including construction sites, industrial facilities, and business premises. They provided 395 improvement recommendations and imposed penalties for 10 unsafe conditions. The bureau said it would continue to implement enforcement measures of “immediate fines, immediate suspension, and immediate education,” ordering sites with a poor safety performance to halt hazardous work. In total, four work stoppage orders were issued in 2024.
