A man from the mainland was arrested on Sunday for attacking three Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) inspectors and snatching an identification card from one of them, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Chong identified the suspect as a 35-year-old male surnamed Huang who told the police that he is jobless.
According to Chong, the Judiciary Police (PJ) received a referral from the Public Security Police (PSP) on the afternoon of July 25 about the attack and robbery of three IAM inspectors by Huang.
Chong noted that the IAM inspectors were on duty in Fátima district (花地瑪堂區) when they witnessed Huang littering. The inspectors approached him to issue a citation. When they asked Huang to show his ID, he refused, and walked away.
The three inspectors attempted to stop him but were pushed aside by Huang. They pursued Huang and tried to intercept him, but he continued to push them away and even snatched an identification card from one of them before fleeing Macau.
Chong added that forensic examinations confirmed that the three inspectors – two males and a female – sustained injuries consistent with sustaining bodily harm.
The police identified Huang as the suspect and intercepted him on Sunday as he was re-entering Macau through the Barrier Gate checkpoint. Under questioning, Huang refused to cooperate.
Huang was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing charges of causing bodily harm, and robbery.
