The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested the owner of a private education centre last week for cheating the government out of over 869,000 patacas in its continuing education subsidy scheme, PJ spokesman Lai Man Vai said during a special press conference on Friday.

The suspect defrauded the government of continuing education subsidies by submitting bogus attendance records, involving at least 16 courses run by the education centre.

Most of the courses run by the education centre were of a recreational nature, and most of the students were senior citizens, according to Lai.
