The 33rd Macao Arts Festival (MAF) will be held from April 28 to May 28, presenting a series of performances and exhibitions, with the theme of “The Long Artistic Journey”, featuring 20 programmes covering theatre, opera, dance, music, and visual arts. Tickets will be available from Sunday, March 26.
Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) President Leong Wai Man made the remarks during a press conference at MGM in Cotai yesterday, adding that the total budget for this year’s art-fest is 22 million patacas, a decrease of about two million patacas compared with the 32nd MAF.
Leong said the festival will also feature 22 outreach activities in a total of 46 sessions including “Meet-the-Artist”, backstage tours, pre-show talks, lectures, workshops, an exhibition and screenings of international stage performances, in order to deepen the public’s insight into artistic trends and broaden their horizons of art appreciation.
Leong underlined that this year’s MAF will feature famous artists demonstrating Chinese-style artistry and the appeal of Chinese culture, such as famous Chinese dancer Yang Liping, versatile Peking opera actress Shi Yihong and rising theatre director Liu Fangqi, as well as the Portuguese Contemporary Dance Company which renders poetry through its dance routines.
Leong said that this year’s MAF will also feature local productions with a combination of creativity, technology, insight, and human concern.
