Fuhong Society of Macau and Wynn Macau jointly organised the annual Sports Day event themed “Pluralistic Movement, Inclusive Participation” yesterday at the Macau Federation of Trade Unions’ Workers Stadium complex, aiming to provide more opportunities for people with disabilities to foster a healthy lifestyle through their participation in multi-sport activities, while enhancing the community’s enthusiasm for sport and health awareness to promote the idea of physically handicapped and the able-bodied integration (PHAB).

A total of 17 associations and secondary schools participated in the event in nine combined teams.

Chan Choi Fat, chairman of the organisation’s council said in a speech during yesterday afternoon’s award presentation ceremony for the one-day event that since its establishment in 2003, its 22 service units including the vocation training centre on Avenida Norte do Hipódromo under his organisation has so far provided services to over 1,100 users who are mainly mentally recovered or mentally handicapped, in addition to their families, hoping to enable those with intellectual disabilities, autism and mental rehabilitation to enter the local workforce, apart from providing daily care services.

Meanwhile, Chan told reporters after the ceremony that the organisation’s new vocational training centre was being constructed, adding that he expected the about 20,000-foot centre to come into operation next year, providing nearly 200 service places.

Chan pointed out that the old centre has achieved good results as it has provided more job opportunities for its students and, therefore, his organisation will continue to help people with disabilities seek employment through different means in the future.

The organisation is commemorating its 20th anniversary this year.
