Central District Community Service Consultative Council members urged the government yesterday to further develop and promote its e-ID certificate and to improve the Immigration Department’s identification check system.
They made the remarks during a regular closed-door meeting at the Patane Municipal Market Complex yesterday.
Council members Leong Wai Kei and Ao Ieong Kuong Kao proposed solutions to problems caused by the imperfection of e-ID certificate apps to residents and especially senior citizens in Macau, both told reporters before the closed-door meeting.
Leong noted that the Identification Services Bureau’s (DSI) “Macau One Account” includes the e-ID certificate to provide services such as social welfare, public transport, and health records as well as convenient customs clearance, adding that some residents and senior citizens are still unsure of the relevant usage methods and safety arrangments.
In order to ensure safety and to increase the trust and usage efficiency of citizens, Leong suggested the government provide explanations and assistance on the usage methods by cooperating with local associations and social service organisations for the elderly, and to promote the Cyber Security Law.
Also, Ao Ieong mentioned that even though the government has been promoting the use of the “Macau One Account” mobile app, it is still difficult to increase the participation of senior citizens who account for a large proportion of the Macau population. Therefore, Ao Ieong suggested designing easy-to-use interfaces on applications, providing internet access facilities in community service centres, and providing training on digital devices for senior citizens.
Meanwhile, council member Wu Hang San pointed out before the meeting that residents may face some inconvenience and inefficiency due to problems encountered when using the Immigration Department’s iris recognition system the Macau’s immigration checkpoints, such as those who have an eye disease or are wearing cosmetic contact lenses that change the eye colour.
Wu suggested that there is a need for improving the iris biometric recognition function technology, as well as cooperating with the mainland authorities in applying iris biometric recognition systems fully at three immigration checkpoints in Macau, in order to provide citizens with better services.
