Artist and scholar Guilherme Ung Vai Meng, O.BS Arquitectos co-founder and principal architect Irene Ó, as well as Margarida Saraiva, a researcher, curator and educator, are showcasing their art collections in an exhibition at Taipa Village Art Space, which is on until June 15.

Titled “Show-Off 2.0” and presented by the Taipa Village Cultural Association, the free-admission exhibition comprises Chinese ancestral portraits, paintings and photography accumulated by the three collectors over the years.

The exhibition is now in its second edition and, according to a statement from the art space, follows up on the first-ever art collector’s exhibition in Macau, which debuted last year and featured the collections of lawyer Frederico Rato, architect and photographer Francisco Ricarte, and artist Konstantin Bessmertny. Like last year, their collections aim to show aspects of their personality.

Regarding their collections, the statement said that Ung, a former president of the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), is showcasing his collection of Chinese ancestral portraits that he has been researching for over 20 years.

Most of Ó’s collection, meanwhile, has a “deep sentimental value and is linked to family and friends”, the statement said, and includes a charcoal portrait of herself that was drawn by a former classmate.

Lastly, for Saraiva, she and her husband, Tiago Quadros, have been involved in curating and promoting art and culture both in Macau and abroad, with their collection based on their interactions with many artists, while some were inherited from Quadros’ father, Portuguese painter and University of Porto Faculty of Fine Arts professor emeritus António Quadros Ferreira, the statement added.

The exhibition “aims to promote collecting as a cultural asset that starts with individual initiative, but may also broaden into a sense of commonwealth, foster vitality in society, add diversity to local economies (including through activities like art trading) and nurture local and international talent”, according to the statement.

One can visit the art space, which is located on Rua dos Clérigos, from 12 noon to 8 p.m. daily, with more details available on https://www.taipavillagemacau.com/
