A male casino dealer was arrested this week for sexually harassing a female in the wee hours of Monday in Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The 35-year-old local suspect is surnamed Cheong.
According to Lam, a 27-year-old local woman reported to the police on Monday that she had been sexually harassed by a man at about 2 a.m. that day. She told the police that when she was walking at the junction in Rua de Francisco Xavier Pereira and Rua do Ouvidor Arriaga, a man who was walking towards her, reeked of alcohol and suddenly patted her private parts.
Thanks to CCTV footage, PSP officers identified Cheong as the suspect and located him. The officers arrested Cheong on Monday afternoon at his girlfriend’s home and seized the clothes he wore when committing the crime.
According to Lam, Cheong told the police that he had been drinking with his friends on Sunday night and claimed that he was unable to recall what had happened after drinking.
Cheong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a sexual harassment charge, according to Lam.
