The Fire Services Bureau (CB) has urged residents to always properly use and install gas water heaters in their homes, following several cases recently in which residents suffered accidental carbon monoxide poisoning when showering.

Three such cases have been reported recently including one case on New Year’s Day.

In a statement on Monday, the bureau said that it is paying close attention to “the occurrence of several carbon monoxide poisoning cases in recent months due to improper use of gas water heaters”, adding that most of the cases were due to gas water heaters not being equipped with an exhaust pipe.
