A 30-year-old married delivery man was arrested for sexually harassing a 20-year-old female during a fake job interview, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Erica Cheong Im Sim said during a regular press conference on Friday.
According to Cheong, the suspect, surnamed Cheang, posted a recruitment advertisement on the internet in mid-December looking for a female server. Cheong said that the 20-year-old student victim contacted the suspect for more information. Cheong pointed out that the suspect told the victim he was looking for a casino server at a VIP lounge and the job required her to wear “sexier” clothing such as “low-cut tops” and “mini-skirts”. Cheong added that the suspect asked the female to attend a “one-on-one interview” wearing such clothing.
Cheong said that on December 27 at 10:30 p.m., the victim got into the suspect’s vehicle near Flora Garden in Sidónio Pais. Cheong added that during the “interview”, the suspect tried to “test [the victim’s] limit” by touching her thighs. Cheong said that the victim got scared and got out of the vehicle immediately.
Cheong noted that last month the victim initiated a call with the suspect to follow-up on the recruitment process. Cheong said that the suspect then asked for a “second-round interview” with the victim in mid-January. Cheong pointed out that according to the victim, the suspect said the “second interview” would be more “in depth” adding that there would be more “physical contact”.
According to Cheong, the victim felt suspicious after the call and decided to report the case to the police last Sunday morning.
Cheong underlined that after investigation, the police discovered that the job vacancy was “non-existent”, adding that the suspect was arrested last Sunday night. Cheong noted that the suspect is married and claimed to be a delivery man. Cheong said the suspect admitted that he was “appreciating the female’s body” but denied that he had physical contact with the victim.
Cheong said that the suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for further questioning, facing a sexual harassment charge, as well as a charge based on article 161 of the Macau Penal Code. According to the Macau Penal Code Article 161, if one person deceives another person using an fake identity to engage in a sexual act, then the former will be charge for “sexual fraud”, which could lead to two years behind bars.
