A local man was arrested on Wednesday for injuring his 5-month-old son with a knife, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Mark Sou Sio Keong said at a regular press conference on Friday.
The 33-year-old local suspect surnamed Ho works as a cage worker in a local casino.
According to Sou, the Public Security Police (PSP) notified the Judiciary Police on Wednesday morning about a case of aggravated bodily harm that occurred in a flat in Patane district and in which a baby was injured. PJ officers went to the scene to investigate.
Sou said the baby boy is being looked after by his grandparents. At about 8 a.m. on Wednesday, the 63-year-old grandmother was carrying the baby while preparing infant formula for him as usual.
Ho saw his mother and expressed his dissatisfaction with the amount of infant formula his mother was giving to the baby, resulting in a quarrel. Ho, who was very angry, rushed into the kitchen to get a kitchen knife to threaten his mother. In the melee, Ho accidentally stabbed his son on the left of his forehead close to the temple. The baby started to cry with blood gushing from his wound. His grandparents were terrified and called the police right away for help. The baby was rushed by ambulance to hospital for emergency treatment. Sou did not identify the hospital.
According to the hospital, the baby sustained a five-centimetre- long open wound to the left of his forehead near the temple. The baby required debridement and six stitches. The baby was fine after his emergency surgery, according to Sou.
Under questioning, Ho admitted that he accidentally injured his son on impulse.
Ho has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing aggravated bodily harm and possession of prohibited weapons charges, according to Sou.
