The carcass of a porpoise calf was found at Long Chao Kok in Hac Sa on Friday, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on that day.
According to the statement, a resident informed the bureau about the carcass on Long Chao Kok’s rocky beach. The statement pointed out that IAM officials went to the scene to investigate. The statement added that after a brief examination, the officials identified the carcass as belonging to a finless porpoise calf, with a body length of 0.83 metres.
The statement pointed out that the porpoise’s skin had not yet disintegrated, adding that the officials believed that the porpoise was dead before being washed up onto the beach.
The statement urged the public to call the Municipal Affairs Bureau on 2833 7676 if they see a stranded cetacean.
