Macau recorded 1.357 million entries and exits at its border checkpoints during the Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday from February 11 to 17, a drop of 11 percent compared with the same holiday period in 2020, the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement yesterday.
Over 91,000 visitors entered Macau during the seven days, decreasing 65.3 percent from last year’s same holiday period.
During the last three days of the holiday, Macau recorded 205,000 entries and exits on Monday, 223,000 on Tuesday and 234,000 on Wednesday, increasing 9.6 percent, 24.5 percent and 38.1 percent respectively.
The Macau government’s effective COVID-19-control measures helped cross-border travel recover during the CNY holiday, the statement said.
As of yesterday, no locally-transmitted COVID-19 cases had been reported in Macau for over 10 months. The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases stands at 48. No novel coronavirus fatalities have been reported. – Xinhua, MPD
